Yes Man

Last night, while enjoying our subs we watched Yes Man with Jim Carey, eye candy Bradley Cooper and Zooey Deschanel. I am a fan of Jim Carey but am tired of his usual "Funny Tactics." He is great at impressions, obvious in your face humor and complete character adaptation, but I was skeptical about this movie. I was scared that it would be similar to all of his other outlandish characters he's been in the past. We were in the mood for something funny, but I wasn't sure this would do it for me. I have seen many of his movies and they have become a bit worn to me.

There was this one scene where he was in the bar. He runs into his ex-wife and freaks out. He is trying to leave and stumbles into a cocktail waitress knocking drinks everywhere ,which was funny. However, they took it to the next level and added the "slip on a banana peel fall." This was too over the top and didn't even look natural. These over the top tactics are what I have become restless with.

Jim Carey plays Carl Allen who is a very plain, boring, predictable, and a quite scheduled man. He makes any excuse not to go outside of his tight routine even going through great lengths to avoid friends. That is only until he makes a decision with a bit of a shove, to change his way of thinking. He attends a seminar that changes him and the way he thinks. He meets a great new woman, Allison, played by Zooey Deschanel, donates to charity, and learns new things. I was surprised because I thought for sure it would leave me disappointed. What resonated most with me was the message.

If I were to rate on a 1-5 scale it would be a 3. The movie was mildly funny, kept my interest, satisfied my humor craving (Though I would have enjoyed more) and left me with a thought provoking message. If you are a fan of Jim Carey's, or in the mood for a lift of spirit than you should check this out.
